Le Marché

You cannot come to Provence and not go to the market. I live here and I’m quite spoiled. Aix, in my opinion, is one of the nicest markets in the region and you’ll find everything from antiques, clothes, artisanal products and of course, food!

Here, in Aix-en-Provence, the fruit and vegetable markets are every day but the best days to come are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday where you’ll find everything that you could possibly imagine. The whole city is lined with market stalls.

The easiest route is to start at the bottom of Le Cours Mirabeau. Once you’ve done that whole street (and maybe stopped for coffee along the way) continue straight along until the end then turn left. This street will guide you through more market stalls and eventually bring you to Place des Precheurs where you will find the biggest of the food markets. There are also antiques, jewelry, artisan works, etc.

If you haven’t had enough by then, walk on to Place Richelme where you will find another food market and some cute places to have lunch. My favorites are Weibel, Le Petit Bistro and Le Pain Quotidienne.

But wait…..there’s more. Just beyond Place Richelme is the Place de l’Hotel de Ville. Here, you will find the Flower Market. This could be your final stop and from here continue on to Place des Cardeurs where you will find yourself in one of the busies places in Aix, where there are nothing but restaurants. The options are endless.

This is a full morning and I promise that you won’t be disappointed.
