Food at Christmas

As the restaurants have all been ordered to close, many have had the nice idea to open up a little takeout area. There are now many crepe stands lining the streets. Some restaurants are offering wine and hot drinks. Most have set up a winter scene. It is outdoors and the nights are colder. As I wander through the streets, there is the glow from candles and christmas lights. There is the smell of warm Nutella and roasting chestnuts. My favorites are the pizza places that have there wood burning stoves burning brightly for everyone to see and the smell of the pizza is to die for. It looks like winter and it is drawing people in. With the stores now open again, Aix is doing its best to create an atmosphere and remind us that Christmas season is upon us. It is quiet but there is still a little buzz on the streets.

The supermarkets, as always, are filled with so many options for the holidays. There are rows and rows of chocolate, fois gras, seafood, cheese, raclette, buche de noel…the list goes on and on. There are so many options and everything is presented as if it’s all screaming at you to pick it up and bring it home. The choice is endless and there are options for big and small crowds. As many are celebrating in smaller groups this year, they have made special packaging of certain items and there are even many products packaged for 1. Yes, party of 1. A sad year, indeed, but this way everyone can enjoy a little taste of Christmas without too much waste.
