Live Like a Local

Connect with local social groups. Yes, I do this because I am moving to the area, but sometimes there are things that are geared for just about anyone. I would take a look on Meetup and Facebook. All around the world there are people organizing get-togethers. Simply search “international coffee, hiking, drinks, etc.” in the search bar. Something is likely to turn up. If you see something that looks like a pop in event, just go. Polyglot groups are fun, too. This is a language exchange. More often than not, this is a focus on English, so you’ll probably meet some cool local people who are just looking to improve their English and it’s a great excuse to go to a cafe or bar. Also, there are international drink evenings (not always but look for it). I went to a couple on my own last year. It was something to do and I had some nice conversations with people.

Don’t see an event you like? Create your own. Who knows? There may be other people out there looking to do the same thing as yourself. Hiking, exploring, you name it. It is so easy today with technology. Look into it before you go and if you see something interesting, Go for it!
