Lourmarin
I’m in love with Lourmarin.
This town has been mentioned to me many times since I arrived in Aix-en-Provence.
August 2022
I love it here! Lourmarin is a beautiful town and the market is fabulous. You’ll find it every Friday and I must admit that there are many beautiful treasures to look at. There seem to be many more artisans in the area and I found the selection of crafts to be not only endless but all very beautiful and unique.
Of course, there is also the food! The choice is a bit different than what we find in the city. Here, in Lourmarin, the artisans, producers and farmers are actually in front of you selling their own products. Thanks to this the variety and quality of what is on offer is a bit more diverse than what we can find in the bigger markets of Aix-en-Provence and the like. I love the market in Aix but I think this is worth a visit, for sure.
If you can’t make it for the Friday market, don’t fear! The streets of Lourmarin are lined with one creative shop after a another. There is jewelry, artwork, home interiors, etc. You will find everything here and it all seems to be original which is very exciting.
My favorite places to eat are Cafe Gaby and L’Insolite (reservations necessary). I also like “La Fontaine”. They are both on the main square which is very picturesque. Do be sure to get into the middle of town. .It is a good idea to book as these places are popular. Saying that, we went on one of the busiest Friday’s of the summer and we were able to sit down so don’t worry. You’ll not go hungry.
Update: October 2022
I’ve just been back and it wasn’t market day. It was such a joy. This town is really a gem. Here are some photos of what it looks like when the crowds have disappeared.
