Hiking at Barrage du Bimont Near Aix-en-Provence

One of my favorite things to do near Aix is to get outside in the fresh air and find a place to walk. There are many beautiful areas not far from the city. I most often go to the Bimont Dam (Barrage du Bimont). It is situated in the town of St. Mark-Jaumegarde and is only about a 15 minute drive from the center of Aix. If you don’t have a car, I would say that this is worth an Uber ride. There are many hiking trails that you can take and if you don’t want to pack your own lunch, you could even walk into Le Tholonet where there is a very nice outdoor restaurant called Relais Cezanne. We always do that if we want to make a full day of it. If you choose this option, it will take you about 1 hour to walk to the restaurant and 1 hour to walk back to where you started.

Equally, if. you’re without a car, you could walk to Le Tholonet directly. In fact, I know people that do walk directly from Aix and from there they take the direction towards Barrage Zola to find the hiking trails. The options are endless.. Choose the best route for you and enjoy this day out. In my opinion, this is really the beauty of Provence.
